What an encounter with a rhinoceros taught me about followership

“Keep close, no, keep really close behind me – ok now climb up the rock and do it quickly!” shouted my South African safari guide in a low tone. Finding myself lying half way up a large boulder, I finally dare to look up! With my heart beating out a veritable rhythm in my chest I eventually pluck up enough courage to look at the rhinoceros which is no more than 8 feet away! And slowly, as the pounding in my heart begins to subside, I start to marvel at the amazing experience I am having. What an awesome sight…..

The Liquorice Allsorts Approach to Selling

I’m in the supermarket in the sweets aisle, hand out stretched to pick up a bag of liquorice allsorts, what is going through my mind? “Shall I buy chocolate, no, that is too fattening”….or “I fancy something sweet to eat when I am watching the movie tonight”….or “I could make the kids an ice cream treat”….or “I had wine gums last week, I think I will try something different”….”I wonder whether per kilogram it is better value to buy the family pack or the standard pack”….or ….? How many pickled onions is too many?

I had brought a jar of pickled onions on impulse at my local farm shop. I hadn’t had them for ages and there they were just sitting on the counter waiting for me to buy them. And I had some wonderful black bomber cheddar in the fridge which I knew they would complement beautifully. As I finished the 5th pickled onion I found myself thinking – “I wonder how many pickled onion is too many to eat in one go?” Which leads me to pondering – how do we know when something is too much?
